TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24th


7 am: National Pancake Day @ IHOP at the Boardwalk

IHOP restaurants nationwide will offer their guests a free short stack, three of their signature buttermilk pancakes, and in return, guests are asked to donate the price of the meal or more to local children's hospitals and other local charities in their community.





8 am: Tuesday Morning Breakfast Group @ Holiday Inn-Downtown Shreveport

9 am: Income Tax Preparation & E-filing @ Queensborough Neighborhood Assoc.

The Queensborough Neighborhood Association will prepare and electronically file your 2008 federal and state income taxes. Bring in your W-2, identification, and social security card for you and all dependents. Saturdays are by appointment only. Filing will be available each weekday from 9 am to 4:30 pm. 10 am: Mardi Gras Parade @ Bossier Council on Aging

10:30 am - Sesame Street Live 'Elmo's Green Thumb' @ Centurytel Center

Join all your favorite friends on an amazing adventure as they help Elmo find a new home for Sunny. Tickets: $12; $15; $22, premium seats; $26, gold circle seats. This show runs again at 7 pm, and then again on Wednesday at 10:30 am,





5:30 pm - Concerned Citizens Coalition Precinct 38 Neighborhood Association Meeting @ Hollywood/Union Branch Library

Guest speaker will be Dr. Cuthbert O. Simpkins II, M.D., F.A.C.S. Chief of Truma and Critical Care Department of Surgery, LSU Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. Community youth will read essays on famous black Americans and local elected officials will update constituents about their office of service. The library is located at 2105 Hollywood Ave.





5:30 pm - SPAR's Weight Lifting Classes @ Bilberry Park Rec Center

Olympic weightlifter Kendrick Farris will be part of the staff to train youth. The program's emphasis is on middle school youth, boys and girls, ages 11-14. The center is located at 1902 Alabama Ave. Call (318) 673-7892 for more information. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays.





6 pm: Krewe of Aesclepius Fat Tuesday Children's Parade @ Louisiana Boardwalk

Royalty ride in convertibles and floats wearing their costumes and collar pieces. The parade is perfect for families with small children.





6 pm: PRIME TIME Family Reading Time @ Multicultural Center of the South

7 pm: Celebrating Black History Month @ West Shreveport Library

The Mount Canaan Baptist Church Male Chorus will perform. The library is located at 4380 Pines Road. Call (318) 635-0883 for more information.





11 pm: Krewe of Aesclepius Bridge Closing Ceremony and Toast to the End of Mardi Gras @ Texas Street Bridge

One large float from Aesclepius parade will be in the center of the bridge and a float from Centaur and Gemini will be on each side of it. Champagne is poured by the Aesclepius captain and dispensed to the crowd for toasting.







WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25th


12 pm: Ash Wednesday @ St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

There will be two Ash Wednesday services. The church is located at 275 Southfield Road. There is another service at 7 pm.





4:30 pm -- Grief Share @ Summer Grove Baptist Church

Seminar and support group for those grieving the death of someone close to them. Participants will learn valuable information about recovering from your grief and renewing your hope for the future. This event is free.







THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26th


7 pm: Poetic Paradise - Poetry at Its Finest @ H&H Lounge

6 pm: 'The Three Little Pigs' @ BPCC

The BPCC and the Cavalier Players presents the 17th annual children's show, "The Three Little Pigs." Tickets are $5. This show also runs Saturday at 12 pm, Sunday at 2 pm as well as Friday Feb. 27th at 6 pm and Saturday, Feb. 28th at 2 pm.

Introduction by LaSpirits, speakers include Bob Hunnicutt, from the Georgia Ghost Society; Pete Haviland, with Lone Star Spirits; presentation on voodoo by New Orleans native Kalila Smith; Gina Vega, voodoo practitioner; introduction of parapsychology by Loyd Auerbach; EVP presentation by Dan Mewhinny, founder of SoCal Paranormal; Kristyn Gartland will present "Ghost Hunting 101," John Zaffis, host of paranormal radio show "The NightWatch Show," complimentary lunch, and EMF meter giveaways. 11 am: Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana Pet Adoptions

1 pm; Shreve Dance Line Little Girl's Camp @ Captain Shreve High School (Gym)

Little girls in grades K4 to fifth grade will learn a dance from members of the Gator Highline, get a T-shirt, have a snack, and perform for family and friends at the end of the afternoon. Little girls also have the opportunity to perform in the Dance Line’s annual spring show, "Shimmering Nights," on March 5, at Captain Shreve High School. Admission is $25.






4 pm: USA Amateur Boxing @ Praise Temple Plaza

Gemini Parade after party, door prizes given away throughout the night, and king cake. This event is free until 11 pm, $5 thereafter. The theater is located at 620 Milam St.
