The Queensborough Neighborhood Association will prepare and electronically file your 2008 federal and state income taxes. Bring in your W-2, identification, and social security card for you and all dependents. Saturdays are by appointment only. Filing will be available each weekday from 9 am to 4:30 pm. This tour runs through Feb. 15th. The traveling troupe will perform three of William Shakespeare's most enduring plays. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 12TH


7 pm: Women's Self Defense Class @ Lotus Studio

Participants will learn how to identify, avoid, and if necessary escape potentially dangerous or life threatening situations by using simple and basic self defense techniques. "Family Planning," a play by Julia Edwards and directed by Robert Alford II, is the story of a married, Olivia and Hamish, who have the worst fight in front of a house full of guests in this explosive comedy/drama. Sci-Port will celebrate Black History Month by honoring the scientific achievements of African Americans. Feb. 13, George Carruthers, inventor of Far UV Camera/Spectrograph that paved the way for imaging from space; Feb. 20, George Crum, created paper-thin potatoes that developed into mouth-watering potato chips. The Robinson Film Center presents a screening of the original 1980 version of "Friday the 13th" with vintage horror movies trailers. Tickets: $5.75-$8.75.







SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14th


8 am: JAMfest Nationals @ Shreveport Convention Center

More than 800 cheer and dance teams will compete in the Natinal Championshp for awards in their respective all-star and school divisions and for overall Grand Champion awards. Each team will receive a trophy regardless of place of finish. All first place teams will receive individual medals, a team banner and National Championship sweatshirts. Second and third place finishers will receive medals. This competition also runs on Sunday (same time).




12:30 pm - Performance Love Poetry Workshops @ Multicultural Center of the South

Professional storyteller and spoken work artist Joanna Ballard will conduct the workshops. Workshops will cover stage presence, body language, and projection along with other aspects of public live performance. The workshop will be followed by a Performance Love Poetry Showcase at 1:30 p.m. All attending should come prepared with a love poem, no longer than five minutes and appropriate for all ages. 4:30 pm -- Krewe of Centaur's Mardi Gras Parade in Downtown Shreveport

The parade starts from downtown Shreveport and proceeds south on Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway. Once the parade reaches Shreveport-Barksdale Highway, it will turn right in front of Shreve City and continue until it reaches East Kings Highway. It will then turn left onto East Kings Highway until it reaches Preston, which is the end of the parade.




5 pm: Basic Photography Class @ East Bank Theatre

Classes will be led by professional photographer, graphic designer, and painter, Tony Reans. Class attendees will soon begin taking better photos of any subject. Cost is $20 per class. Call 318-741-8310 for more information. The Theatre is located at 630 Barksdale Blvd. in Bossier City.




8 pm: 'Someone's In The Kitchen' Culinary Arts Series @ artspace in the west edge

3 pm: Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Pet Parade

Activities start at 1:30 p.m., parade begins at 3 p.m. Prizes for best dressed, best float, and pet/owner look-a-like will be given and our royal court of pets will be presented.
