7:30 pm -- Mahogany Ensemble Theatre presents: “The Bluest Eye” @ Louisiana State Exhibit Museum

Mahogany Ensemble Theatre presents the North Louisiana premiere of the 'The Bluest Eye,' adapted for the stage by Lydia R. Diamond. This powerful adaptation of Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison's heart-wrenching American classic is a tragic story of a black girl's coming of age in the racially turbulent 1940s. Eleven-year-old Pecola Breedlove prays for her eyes to turn blue so that she will be beautiful, so that people will love her, so that her world will be different. 8 am: Greater Shreveport Medal Play Amateur Golf Tournament @ Querbes Park Rec Center

A 36-hole medal play championship open to all amateur golfers with a valid handicap. Area high school players are encouraged to enter, all skill levels welcome. The ride will begin at the church, through Northwest Louisiana, and ending at the future home of Heart of Hope at 10420 Grawood School Road, Shreveport. There will be food, music, biker games, children's games, a silent auction, vendors and a 2008 Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary Edition S/T Deluxe raffle. 9 am: Chimpanzee Discovery Day @ Eddie D. Jones Nature Park (Keithville)

Tour the sanctuary, observe the chimpanzees in their natural habitats and observe them during scheduled feeding times. There will be activities and educational opportunities for the entire family. The month of May, the theme will be "Hawaiian Luau." Guests are invited to wear their favorite Hawaiian shirts and bring donations of tropical fruits (fresh or dried), sugar-free frozen fruit pops, plastic mixing bowls, long handled stirring spoons, and plastic "go cups."
