5:30 pm - Concerned Citizens Coalition Precinct 38 Neighborhood Association Meeting @ Hollywood/Union Branch Library

Guest speaker will be Dr. Cuthbert O. Simpkins II, M.D., F.A.C.S. Chief of Truma and Critical Care Department of Surgery, LSU Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. Community youth will read essays on famous black Americans and local elected officials will update constituents about their office of service. The library is located at 2105 Hollywood Ave.

11 pm: Krewe of Aesclepius Bridge Closing Ceremony and Toast to the End of Mardi Gras @ Texas Street Bridge

One large float from Aesclepius parade will be in the center of the bridge and a float from Centaur and Gemini will be on each side of it. Champagne is poured by the Aesclepius captain and dispensed to the crowd for toasting.

8 am: JAMfest Nationals @ Shreveport Convention Center

More than 800 cheer and dance teams will compete in the Natinal Championshp for awards in their respective all-star and school divisions and for overall Grand Champion awards. Each team will receive a trophy regardless of place of finish. All first place teams will receive individual medals, a team banner and National Championship sweatshirts. Second and third place finishers will receive medals. This competition also runs on Sunday (same time).




12:30 pm - Performance Love Poetry Workshops @ Multicultural Center of the South

Professional storyteller and spoken work artist Joanna Ballard will conduct the workshops. Workshops will cover stage presence, body language, and projection along with other aspects of public live performance. The workshop will be followed by a Performance Love Poetry Showcase at 1:30 p.m. All attending should come prepared with a love poem, no longer than five minutes and appropriate for all ages. 4:30 pm -- Krewe of Centaur's Mardi Gras Parade in Downtown Shreveport

The parade starts from downtown Shreveport and proceeds south on Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway. Once the parade reaches Shreveport-Barksdale Highway, it will turn right in front of Shreve City and continue until it reaches East Kings Highway. It will then turn left onto East Kings Highway until it reaches Preston, which is the end of the parade.




5 pm: Basic Photography Class @ East Bank Theatre
