6 am: U.S. Highway 80 Spring Sale in Greenwood, LA

The U.S. 80 Spring Highway Sale is 141 miles long from Terrell, Texas, to Greenwood. It is a string of garage and yard sales along the historic highway. The sale is from sunup to sundown, Friday through Sunday.




9 am: Shreveport Kennel Club All Breed Dog Show @ Bossier Civic Center

dog show featuring more than 1,200 dogs, and more than 120 different breeds. The D'Arbonne Kennel Club will host their shows April 19-20. Proceeds will go to Shreveport Search and Rescue Team. 8 am: 'Stop The Violence' 3 On 3 City-Wide Basketball Tournament @ Bill Cockrell Community Center

basketball tournament for boys and girls ages 9 to 18 years old. Trophies will be awarded to first and second place winner, each team member will receive a medal. 8 am: Ninth Annual Webster Parish Spring Spectacular @ First Baptist Church of MInden

The Junior Service League of Minden will host the annual one mile fun run/walk and 5K run/walk, to benefit the Dorcheat Historical Association Museum. Race route starts at First Baptist Church and travels through Minden's historic district. Following the race, there will be a post party with refreshments and door prizes. In the 5K division, trophies will awarded to overall male and female winners and runners-up and to age-group winners. The annual book sale for the Friends of Shreve Memorial Library will be held Saturday, April 18, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. in the basement of the Main Library at 424 Texas Street. Annual dues for members is $5.00 and can be paid at the door. Saturday sale for members only will start at 9:00 a.m. and go until 12:00 noon. All proceeds from the sale finance special programs and needs for the branch libraries. This sale is for book lovers of all ages. Prices are very low: $1.00 for best sellers; $0.50 hardback and videos; $0.25 children, paper backs and library issue videos. Reference sets, CDs , books on tapes, and books in the Collector's Corner are individually priced. Grab bags are $1.00. Members-only sale Saturday, April 18, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. 9 am: Chimpanzee Discovery Day @ Eddie D. Jones Nature Park

Tour the sanctuary, observe the chimpanzees in their natural habitats and observe them during scheduled feeding times. There will be activities and educational opportunities for the entire family. April, visitors will be given the opportunity to help make special treats for the chimpanzees. Skeeter, the Centenary mascot, will entertain the chimpanzees and visitors. The staff will be giving "Chimp Chat." The nature trail will be open for a short hike. Guests may bring canned fruit, sugar-free Jello, sugar-free pudding, and applesauce.
