TUESDAY, JULY 7TH



7 am: Shreveport Farmers Market @ Festival Plaza

The Shreveport Farmers' Market will offer locally-grown vegetables and fruits, locally-raised meats, fresh gulf shrimp, Longhorn beef, chickens, eggs, artisan sausage, freshly-roasted coffee, canned fruits and vegetables, jams and jellies, salsa's, granola, baked goods, soups, dips, herbs and herbal products, live plants, Louisiana wines, an array of other foods and crafts, and live music performances. The Tuesday afternoon markets will take place through July 28, from 3-6 p.m.

3 pm: Youth Model Camp 2009 @ Airport Park Rec Center

SPAR and Total Package Management LLC offers a youth model camp for pre-teen and teenage girls, ages 12 to 18. Participants will learn how to identify, avoid, and if necessary escape potentially dangerous or life threatening situations by using simple and basic self defense techniques. 7 pm: 33rd Annual Sickle Cell Softball Tournament @ Cargill Park

The Northwest Louisiana Chapter of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America presents a fundraiser to help find a cure for sickle cell. Softball tournament will kick off with the AT&T Homerun Derby at Cargill Park, July 10 at 7 p.m. First, second and third place cash prizes will be awarded; teams will be eliminated from the tournament to be held at Cargill and Southern Hills parks throughout the weekend, July 11-12. $5, admission per car; $2, for walk-ins. 1 pm: Solar System Saturdays @ Sci-Port

Solar System Saturdays, sponsored by LSUS/SBAS, takes an intimate look into our Solar System. This series of presentations and activities begins at Earth, journeys to the planets and ends at the outer fringes of our Solar System. Our tour guide will be the distinguished guest speaker: Dr. Laura Whitlock, Ph. D. Associate Professor of Physics, LSUS. Dr. Whitlock has worked with NASA and has taught many students and teachers about the wonders of space. As a special treat, there will be a prize giveaway of NASA goodies for participants who attend each presentation.




1:30 pm -- Booksigning @ Bossier Parish Library

Local Author, Jan F. Whitaker, will meet and greet the public and sign copies of her books, "How I Got Over" and "Shhh!! Are You Listening?" This event will be held in the library’s conference room. The library is located at 2206 Beckett St.




4 pm: 'Rusty O' Halo' @ St. Rest Baptist Church

Christian drama that focuses on selfishness, preparation for heaven, people in the Church and gives a good view of what Jesus sees when He looks at His church. Sponsored by ShepherdNSheep Ministry. Cost is $20. St. Rest is located at 1664 Garden St.




5 pm: Jaws Film & Memorabilia Exhibit @ Robinson Film Center

2:30 pm -- 'The Secret Garden' a musical @ First United Methodist Church (Performing Arts Center)
